The Town has requested that the brush dump site on Crumhorn Mtn. be used ONLY for brush, leaves, and similar natural waste. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MAY BUILDING MATERIALS, RAW GARBAGE, OR HOUSEHOLD TRASH BE DUMPED ON THIS SITE!!!

There have been a number of recent burglaries in the Colliersville area, mostly targeting local businesses. Please take security measures & if you have any info that may lead to the solving of these crimes, please contact the Otsego Co. sheriff.

Thanks to the generosity of the Town Board of Milford, we now have available to our membership a current copy of the Zoning Regulations of the Town of Milford. If you wish to view this copy, please contact GYLA through the E-Mail function of this website.

Thanks to the efforts of the Otsego County Conservation Association, and its director, Erik Miller, NYS DEC has issued a $15, 600 grant  for a project to organize & conduct a 3 year program to attempt the removal of water chestnuts from the waters of Goodyear Lake.  GYLA applauds OCCA's efforts & looks forward in the Spring when we all can meet to eradicate this invasive plant from our waterways.

Answers from NYS DEC:

Bill Sherry of the DEC in Stamford, NY was helpful in answering some questions posed by some of GYLA’s members.

1) The larger portion of Goodyear Lake is not a designated wetland.
2) The river channel into Goodyear Lake up to the sharp bend before you see the stump lot is not a wetland.
3) The waters from the sharp bend, and back towards Wightman’s Lumber, and the stump lot (also considered Goodyear Lake) are designated wetlands.
4) That wetland is designated a Class1 wetland, and bears the code number MI-21, and maps of this can be seen at the Otsego Co. Clerk’s Office. There is a 100 foot buffer zone around wetlands.
5) Clear cutting is not allowed to the water’s edge in wetlands. Permits for timbering in wetlands are required and timbering is regulated.
6) In areas not designated as wetlands “good practice” timbering is allowed.
7) It is against the law to fell a tree into any navigable waterway in NY State. The same applies to brush, or any other debris. Anyone seeing an individual doing so, may report that person to the authorities.
8) DEC is NOT responsible for the removal of any debris in the waterways. It is up to the land owners and others to take the initiative. Permits are not usually required for the removal of natural deadfalls, etc.

GYLA member & businessman, Drew Rossman of the Paddle Shack in Portlandville has some special offers to GYLA members: 50% off the regular rates on canoes & kayaks. Reservations suggested. Contact him @ drew@kayaklock.com . Thanks Drew!!

On March 22, 2007, the Otsego County Sheriff's Office has informed us that arrests have been made in the burglaries of two Goodyear Lake residences. A cooperative effort by the Otsego County Sheriff's Office and the NYS Police has resulted in the arrest of four individuals suspected in these crimes. Our thanks to these law enforcement agencies for their good work.
